CLIF Bars Added to Product Recall Due to Listeria
On June 2nd, Clif Bar & Company joined a growing list of producers that have voluntarily recalled products – including CLIF BAR® Nuts & Seeds energy bars, CLIF BAR® Sierra Trail Mix energy bars, and CLIF® Mojo® Mountain Mix® – that may contain sunflower ingredients that pose a possible risk of listeria exposure, according the U.S. Food & Administration.
At least 39 separate product recalls have been issued so far. For a full list of potentially contaminated products involved in this recall, visit the FDA’s website. No illnesses have been reported to date.
Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and even fatal infections in young children, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems. Healthy adults may experience temporary symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. However, listeria infection is also a concern for pregnant women because it can cause miscarriages and stillbirths.
